ABOUT

Myles O'Gorman is a theatre director especially interested in creating visually striking and formally experimental work. He works with both New Writing and Classical texts. His process is centred around collaboration, play and discovery, as well as building playable and sustainable frameworks for performance.
Recently he has sought to combine his interest in Live Art and Theatre through his work with Helikon Theatre Company and regular collaborators, Hazel Low and Meg Lewis. He is currently Associate Director on Subject Object's new project What Are You Looking For: A Grindr Chorale written and directed by Nathan Ellis, developed with Nottingham Playhouse.
On his first Arts Council-funded professional production, Myles was nominated for the OFFIE Award for Best Director (The Blue House). His last production, Tiger, was an OFFIE Finalist for Best New Play. He was also longlisted for both the 2022 and 2024 JMK Award.
Myles honed his craft during Lockdown by training with directors such as Lyndsey Turner, Sacha Wares, Katie Mitchell, Mike Alfreds and Nancy Meckler. The latter's teaching on wants and obstacles were transformative. He looks to share these processes in his own teaching, regularly facilitating drama groups for adults and young people. He currently teaches weekly for Open Age, and four times weekly in schools.
As a dramaturg, he has helped guide several new plays from page to stage, and is currently a Script Reader for Theatre503 and the 2025 Bruntwood Prize.
